Terms
Terms and conditions for VeraLinear
Last updated: July 2026
1. Scope
These terms and conditions apply to the use of VeraLinear, in particular the website, web app, reading cockpit, Studio, browser extension, interfaces, interlinear translation features, iSpicker, correction and suggestion features, and future mobile applications.
The contracting party is the operator named in the legal notice. Deviating terms of the user only apply if we expressly agree to them.
2. Description of services
VeraLinear is a digital tool for reading, decoding and learning foreign-language content. The platform can display texts interlinearly, explain words and expressions, generate context suggestions, store personal reading trails, enable corrections and provide learning materials.
The browser extension augments websites directly in the browser. It can analyse visible texts, display interlinear views, open iSpicker translations, save words and sources in your account, and transmit correction or problem reports.
The specific scope of services depends on the current product description, the activated features, the selected plan, technical requirements and the available language data.
3. User account and connecting the extension
A VeraLinear account is required for certain features. The browser extension is linked to the account via a connection token. Access data and tokens must be kept confidential and protected against unauthorised access.
Tokens, device connections or sessions may be blocked where there is reasonable suspicion of misuse, unauthorised use, a security risk or a material breach of contract.
4. Permitted use
VeraLinear may only be used within the framework of applicable law and these terms. Users are responsible for holding the necessary rights to the texts and other content they process with VeraLinear.
The following are not permitted in particular:
- unlawful use or the processing of unlawfully obtained content;
- distribution of malicious code, spam, deception, or attacks on VeraLinear or third parties;
- passing on personal tokens, accounts or paid access to unauthorised third parties;
- circumventing security mechanisms, plan limits or technical restrictions;
- use on pages or with content whose technical processing the user does not want or is not permitted to initiate.
5. Website content and sensitive pages
The browser extension can read website content and transmit it to VeraLinear when it is activated on a page. Content from password, payment and comparable form input fields is excluded from processing. On detected login, account, checkout, banking, payment or comparably sensitive pages, VeraLinear may pause automatically.
Unusual website structures cannot be fully detected in every individual case. VeraLinear should therefore not be used on pages where confidential or particularly sensitive content is visible.
6. User content, corrections and suggestions
Users can enter texts, private corrections, translation suggestions, learning notes, problem reports and other content. They remain responsible for this content.
Content suggested publicly or for general improvement may be reviewed, curated, accepted, rejected, modified or deleted by VeraLinear. There is no entitlement to publication or permanent use of a suggestion.
Where content is deliberately submitted to improve the general VeraLinear offering, the user grants the non-exclusive rights of use required for review, display, curation, quality assurance and improvement.
7. Translations, AI and external services
VeraLinear can generate or check translations and language notes using its own data, rule sets, machine processes and external translation and AI services.
Translations, interlinear texts, context suggestions, example sentences and other results may be incorrect, incomplete or misleading. They serve as a learning aid and orientation and do not replace a professional translation or expert advice.
8. Free, trial and paid services
VeraLinear may offer free, trial and paid services. Free features labelled as beta, early access or test do not create any entitlement to be offered permanently, unchanged or free of charge.
Free features may in future be given reasonable quotas or technical limits, be modified, discontinued or converted into a paid offering. We will inform users in an appropriate manner before any change that is material for them takes effect. Users can then decide whether they wish to use the changed or paid offering.
Service periods already paid for and expressly promised plan components will not be shortened retroactively. For paid offerings, the prices, terms, quotas and cancellation conditions stated when the contract was concluded apply.
9. Fair use and protection of the service
VeraLinear is intended for personal reading, learning and translating by people. The plan available or agreed in each case may be used to the extent usual for such use.
The following are not permitted in particular:
- automated bulk queries, scraping or bot use outside an expressly provided interface;
- systematically translating or downloading large third-party text collections where this does not serve personal reading and learning;
- sharing accounts or access data with third parties;
- circumventing technical usage limits, security mechanisms or plan restrictions;
- use that infringes the rights of third parties or significantly endangers the stability, security or economic operation of VeraLinear.
In the event of exceptionally high or abusive use, we may temporarily slow down requests, set reasonable technical limits or pause individual features. Unless there is an acute security, abuse or damage incident, we will inform the user concerned in advance and give them an opportunity to clarify the matter.
A complete block or termination will only take place in the event of a material or repeated breach, where a prior request to remedy the situation has been unsuccessful, or where immediate action is necessary to protect VeraLinear, other users or third parties. Statutory rights and promised plan benefits remain unaffected.
If normal personal use generates an unusually high number of requests because of particular reading or learning habits, the user can contact support. We will then endeavour to find an appropriate solution rather than treating such use as abuse without review.
10. Payment processing
Payments may later be processed via external payment service providers. The respective prices and payment terms are displayed before the contract is concluded. As a rule, VeraLinear does not itself store complete payment data such as credit card numbers where these are processed directly by the payment service provider.
11. Availability and technical limits
We endeavour to provide reliable operation. Uninterrupted availability is not owed. Maintenance, technical faults, browser changes, website changes, security measures, outages of external services or network problems may temporarily restrict features.
Browser extensions additionally depend on browsers, website structures, permissions and security models. VeraLinear may therefore not work at all, or work only to a limited extent, on individual websites.
12. Beta and experimental features
Features may be provided as beta, preview, experimental language or test access. Such features may be unstable, work less accurately, be changed or be discontinued.
13. Intellectual property
Rights to VeraLinear, the software, user interfaces, trademarks, logos, database structures, editorial content, language data and other protected components remain with the respective rights holder.
Users receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable right of use within the scope of these terms and the features enabled in each case.
14. No guaranteed learning success
VeraLinear provides tools and aids for encounters with language. No particular learning, examination, translation or language success is guaranteed.
15. Liability
We are liable without limitation in cases of intent, gross negligence, injury to life, body or health, and under mandatory statutory provisions.
In cases of slight negligence, we are liable only for breach of material contractual obligations and limited to the typically foreseeable damage. Liability for the substantive accuracy of machine translations, learning outcomes, external websites, third-party content or outages of external services is excluded to the extent permitted by law.
16. Data protection
Information on the processing of personal data, in particular by the browser extension and external translation services, can be found in the privacy policy.
17. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms for the future where this is necessary due to legal, technical or economic developments and is reasonable for users. We will inform users of material changes in an appropriate manner.
Changes to main services already agreed on a paid basis will only be made within the scope permitted by law. If a change is materially disadvantageous for the user, statutory rights of cancellation and objection remain unaffected.
18. Final provisions
German law applies, unless mandatory consumer protection provisions provide otherwise. The language of the contract is German.
Should individual provisions of these terms be or become invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions remains unaffected.
